With 279 employees and 606 active volunteers, Johanniter Österreich is an integral part of the rescue service as well as in the health sector. Johanniter Österreich Ausbildung und Forschung gem. GmbH was founded in 2012 as a 100% subsidiary of Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe in Austria to combine the tasks of education and training with the possibilities of research. As an operational unit, it ensures the high level of training and the future-oriented development of Johanniter in the long term. Research is conducted in the areas of security research/disaster management, eHealth/future health/health and care systems, social structures and social change, and societal challenges. The findings and developments of the research flow directly into the training and further education of the emergency forces of various rescue and health care organizations.
Johanniter was already a pioneer in the development of e-health and Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) systems in the 1990s. Through continuous development and years of experience with alarm and security systems for seniors, such as the home emergency call, Johanniter is often a partner in future-oriented projects. The interdisciplinary team can focus on needs assessment and acceptance testing, product analysis, usability tests regarding design and optimization as well as market introduction. There is direct access to different target groups. In the Linked Care project, the area of mobile social services of the Johanniter in the Innsbruck area is involved as an end user. They have also gained experience in the use and development of technologies in the health and social sector through their participation in various research projects.
